Fire and Rescue NSW in partnership with Macquarie University have teamed up to organise themajor fundraising event called Fire Fighters Climb for Motor Neurone Disease.

Glenhaven Rural Fire Brigade firefighter Evan Lister, saw this as a great opportunity to participate in a worthwhile cause as he sees it as a great challenge and a good way to bring up our fitness levels and also to increase awareness of this insidious disease by doing something out of the ordinary.

“This will also serve as a test of endurance for our fire fighters as they prepare for the coming bushfire season,” Mr Lister said.

“It will be a gruelling challenge, however it is nothing in comparison to the challenge patients with MND face every day.”

Mr Lister will lead the team of five firefighters from the Hillswhichincludes fellow brigade member Zac Young,Matt Tregear and Kane Chamberlain from Rouse Hill brigade and Nick Taylor from Maroota South brigade.

Superintendent John Hojel commended the team taking on the 98 storey challenge.

“It is great to see our volunteer members continue supporting the community through a variety ofavenues,”Superintendent Hojel said.

“Every dollar raised will directly support vital MND research at the Macquarie University MND Research Centre.”

This year, the Fire Fighters Climb for MND invites firefighters from all fire services, both within Australia and internationally, to take part in this incredible fundraising event.
